Born in NYC, Marlena Dae started writing and singing her own songs as a young child. Songs about breakfast cereal and candy, as well as prescient love songs about longing and loss filled her childhood home on a farm in upstate New York. Eventually R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop were influential to this 20-year old talent. In Germany, where she’s lived since 2011, Dae trained classically for voice as well as piano, but has always made her own music on the side. She plays piano and guitar and writes for herself as well as for other artists. “I love the process of song-writing, of creating something out of nothing. I love putting my feelings or experiences into a song. It feels like my most natural form of self expression,” she says.
